The three Championship golf courses at Gleneagles are considered to be among the best among the best in the world. As well as the King’s Course, Gleneagles has the Queen’s course and the PGA Centenary which is host to the 2014 Ryder Cup.

The King’s Course, designed by James Braid, opened in 1919 and so has been testing the skills of golfing aristocracy for almost a century.

The King’s Course is one of the most beautiful place to play golf in the world, with springy moorland turf underfoot and the sweeping panoramas from all the tees, with the moutains to the north, the green hills to the south and the peaks of the Trossachs and Ben Vorlich on the western horizon.

Gleneagles is located in Auchterarder, in the heart of Scotland close to Perth and Stirling. It is an hour’s drive from Edinburgh and 40 minute’s drive from Glasgow.

The King’s Course is an 18 hole moorland course with a par of 68 and a length of roughly 5546m and more than lives up to James Braid’s plan for the course to test even the best player’s shot-making skills.

All three Gleneagles Hotel golf courses are open to visitors all year around, but given its popularity pre booking tee times is advisable. Maintenance programmes may be in operation during winter in order to ensure courses will still be playable throughout the year.

Green fees  are standard for courses of such renown. The fees fluctuate with the season and more expensive during the summer season. Special offers are available and discounted prices apply to hotel guests. Trolleys, clubs, carts, shoes and caddies are available to hire.

The Dormy Clubhouse at Gleneagles has a relaxed and sociable atmosphere and overlook the 18th holes of both the King’s and the Queen’s course. It has a bar and grill and also boasts luxurious locker rooms and a well-stocked pro shop. It is a perfect place to unwind after a round.

Gleneagles is also home to the PGA National Golf Academy which has been desisgned to help improve the performance of all who love golf with comprehensive indoor and outdoor practice facilities and friendly professional coaching.

The Gleneagles Hotel offers a wide range of rooms suitable for all tastes and is a beautiful place to stay. Children stay free. The resort contains a spa and offers much entertainment for all the family, including many outdoor leisure pursuits.

The holes of King’s course blend perfectly into the landscape with springy fairways that wind their way through punishing rough, strewn with heather and gorse. Many beautiful trees create natural amphitheatres for a number of holes.
