Golf in Luxembourg is often overshadowed by its larger neighbours but the country which is less than twice as big as London is home to six quality golf courses. Due to the size of Luxembourg, the golf courses are all situated within close proximity of one another making Luxembourg a great place for your golf holiday.

The golf courses in Luxembourg offer a wide range of different opportunities and difficulty meaning that there is without doubt a golf course for all different tastes and abilities.

The first golf course to open in Luxembourg was the Grand Ducal Golf Club in 1935, the course is on the outskirts of the capital, Luxembourg City. It is still open today and is rated as one of the best golf courses in Luxembourg. The course's signature hole is the 18th - a short par 5 which offers a real birdie chance for those willing to take the risk!

Around 15km further east of the Grand Ducal is a golf course which has often been described as the best in Luxembourg. Kikuoka Golf & Country Club was opened in 1991 by the Kikuoka family, who are the owners of many other courses in their home country, Japan.

The golf course is located right in the heart of beautiful Luxembourg countryside; there are lakes and wooded areas at different stages throughout the course. The fairways are on the whole quite tight and are further protected by numerous bunkers - there are more than 80 on the golf course!

The Luxembourg Open, a European Challenge Tour event, was hosted at the course for a number of years from 1999. The players loved playing at the course, not only because of its quality but also the five star resort that it's attached to!

An hour or so north of Luxembourg City, near the Belgian and German borders, lies Golf Club Clervaux. Founded in 1989, the original idea was to build a golf course in this area with attractive scenery in order to provide a stimulus to the region. The idea was appreciated and the land the original 9-hole layout was built on, quicly became a full competition standard 18.

In 2010, the clubhouse was fully renovated and modernised and now boasts a restaurant, hotel and seminar room - all of the highest quality.

Luxembourg is often underrated as a country due to its size but, in reality, it has so much to offer. It is a beautiful country full of nature and impressive historic buildings. The most impressive buildings are the numerous castles and forts which are often describes as 'fairytale like'!

Luxembourg's international airport is around 5km away from Luxembourg City. The airport is served by Luxair and numerous other major European airlines and there are a number of flights to and from the airport daily from all destinations. There's also the possibility of flying to an airport in either Belgium or Germany and take a direct bus into Luxembourg which takes around two hours.

Luxembourg may not be the first place you think of when planning your golf holiday, but with six different  quality   golf courses all within an hour of each other, it gives you the opportunity to be able to base yourself in one place and get a real variety without much travel!

There are a couple of golf holiday packages that include Luxembourg on our website. Take a look and see if any of them take your fancy!
