Golf is somewhat new to the island of Cyprus. The Cyprus Golf Federation was established in 2000 and its main aim was to encourage and control golf on the island. The number of golf courses has more than doubled since the introduction of the CGF and with lots of exciting plans afoot, it’s an exciting time for golf in Cyprus.

As it’s relatively new to the golfing world there are only seven golf courses in Cyprus; one in the north and six in the south. However whatever it lacks in quantity is certainly made up for by the sheer quality and diversity of the courses.

Common holiday destinations Paphos and Larnaca are home to the courses in the south that are set in and around the undulating hills and valleys.

The oldest course in Cyprus is located in Paphos, Minthis Hills . In 2006 major renovations were made by acclaimed architects Mackenzie & Ebert in order to improve the course. A new club house was built in 2011 which offers glorious views of the course. To complete the makeover, a completely new top of the range driving range was installed overlooking the mountains from elevated tees. The amount of investment in this course alone in the past decade shows how seriously the Cypriot tourism board is taking golf.

Just a twenty minute drive south will see you arrive at the Nick Faldo designed Eléa Golf Club , located in the middle of the stunning Eléa Estate. The resort has a sprinkling of the finest modern touches blended with the traditional standards and inspirations expected. A fantastic location with spectacular views combined with homes of the highest quality and top notch hospitality.

Aphrodite Hills , a critically acclaimed resort, is just another twenty minute coastal drive away. A championship standard 18-hole golf course, new double ended 350m driving range, first class practise area and big clubhouse with bar and restaurant attached – both overlooking the course are some of the facilities you can expect. The five-star InterContinental Hotel and Greco-Roman themed spa allow for easy relaxation whilst away from the golf course.

Further away from the courses and resorts, the delightful island has an extensive and opulent history combining tradition and culture. This history is made obvious by the various castles, monasteries and ancient ruins that are visible throughout the country.

The weather is fantastic throughout the year. The amount of sunshine that Cyprus receives all year round makes it a dream destination for a golf holiday – the average temperature for the whole year is 24° Celsius. It has been recognized as a brilliant place to holiday for a number of years because of its climate and of course, it’s beautiful beaches.

The local traffic network is brilliant – a modern road network, widespread port services and two modern international airports – making travelling around Cyprus quick, reasonably priced and extremely effective. Paphos, the most popular golfing resort in Cyprus, has an airport with easy access to the major golfing resorts and has daily flights both to and from the major European cities.

With world-class golf courses, set within first class resorts, golf holidays in Cyprus  are inevitably expected to soar in popularity over the next few years. The generous hospitality always on offer, the rich tradition and culture and the fantastic range of gastronomy further enhance the enjoyment and ease of the trip.

The weather and beaches turned Cyprus into a world renowned holiday destination and the new golf resorts, all of which are less than 20 years old, look set to catapult Cyprus to the forefront of golfing destinations. Take a look at the various first class packages  on offer and jump on the most upcoming bandwagon in golf holidays!

    Wonderful Place to Play Golf!
Cyprus is a bit of an unknown place when it comes to golf, but I don't know why! Apart from the fact that the country is beautiful, the quality of some of its courses is unbelievable, in particular Eléa Golf Club which is right up there with some of the best courses I have ever played on! The views from all across the course are fantastic and one can enjoy a round in warm sunshine all throughout the year. I will certainly be returning for a golf holiday in the near future.

    Great experience!
Minthis Hill golf club amazed me in so many ways!! The course is superb and the holes are laid out such an ideal setting for golf between a chain of mountains. It is definitely a challenging course that contains many obstacles and will require you to play your best game. Also, the clubhouse is great and has many different sporting facilities. I certainly recommend this club!
