The golf course at Woodenbridge Golf Club is found towards the East of Ireland near to the small town of Avoca in County Wicklow. Dublin lies to the North of the club and is around an hour away by car. This lovely course is one of the oldest in Ireland  and is a prime example of a parkland style course. It regularly plays host to a number of tournaments and competitions making it a popular and enjoyable course for many visitors.

Originally founded in 1884 the club is steeped in history and joined the Golfing Union of Ireland officially in 1899. The first recorded official designer of the course was Tom Travers who redesigned the original nine-hole course in 1915. From then it remained a 9-hole course until 1994 when the renowned Patrick Merrigan was commissioned to add a further 9 holes to the course and seamlessly fuse the two layouts together. This was no mean feat however it was readily accomplished by Merrigan to create this equally historic and visually pleasing golf course.

The 18 holes measure 5845 metres in total and have a fair par of 71. Water is an integral part of this course thanks to the nearby Avoca and Aughrim rivers which weave effortlessly throughout the course and feature in many of the holes. Other natural features such as trees and shrubbery provide further challenges and obstacles for players to conquer. The course is relatively flat and some say a little tight however this further adds to the challenge. One thing that is guaranteed is the beautiful surroundings and views which can be seen from the course which, at times, are breath-taking.

Facilities at Woodenbridge are extensive and include everything that a golfer may need whilst playing here. There is a clubhouse complete with bar and restaurant as well as a large changing area complete with shower facilities. The site also boasts a fully stocked golf shop equipped with a great array of equipment and apparel to cater to all golfers’ needs.

Tee times at Woodenbridge for visitors are restricted and tend to be clustered towards the beginning and the end of the day as opposed to the more popular times that are taken up by members. Green fees for the course are reasonable and a number of deals and discounts are available at select times during the playing calendar.

Getting to the golf club is relatively easy from the capital Dublin and has good road connections to the majority of Ireland. Dublin plays host to the nearest international airport and overseas visitors are recommended to fly to there. With regards to accommodation there are a number of options available for golfers in and around the local areas that should suit most tastes.
