Located very close to the border that Northern Ireland shares with the Republic of Ireland is the stunning golf course at the Warrenpoint Golf Club. Lying between the serene Carlingford Lough and the impressive Mourne Mountains, the location of this course is truly stunning and is something that is regularly commented on by visitors. Found within County Down, the site is situated just over 10 minutes to the south of the well-appointed town of Newry by car meaning that there are both good amenities and access here for visitors.

The club was originally founded in 1893, making it one of the oldest in the country. Over the years the club has produced a number of excellent players including JL Bamford and Paddy Gribben to name but a few and is popular with locals and visitors alike. The designer of the course remains unknown however it is clear to all that play here that this is a beautifully mature and enjoyable course for all.

Made up of 18 holes which are of a parkland style, the course measures just under 5500 metres from the white tees with a par of 71. Expect well-manicured greens, naturally occurring water features and mature trees combined with well-placed bunkers to create this unique and challenging course that will demand accuracy from all. Even the most experienced of players are sure to find this a formidable course yet it is one that is still enjoyable.

Facilities at the club are fair and include a welcoming bar and restaurant area which all players can enjoy after their rounds. Visitors are warmly welcomed at Warrenpoint although tee time availability is somewhat restricted, the best option for visitors is perhaps one of the open competitions which are held here throughout the year for all to enjoy. Green fee rates are very reasonable and this is a good value for money course for all.

The club is well located to receive visitors from much of the east of Northern Ireland as well as nearby Ireland.  Also, the capital Belfast is little under an hour to the north of the site and onward links to the rest of the United Kingdom are strong from there. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to all tastes and budgets and the club has a number of links with local providers.

The warren golf course is a testing, attractive mature parkland course making it one of my favorites. The grounds date back to 1774 and have an abundance of wild life. The warren also benefits from friendly staff and welcoming members, making a relaxed atmosphere.

super course.3 of the first four holes are par fives which is quite a unique feature.all five par 3s are good, starting with the second hole.greens are true and lush.scenery and setting is stunning.well worth a visit.clubhouse facilities also good.only negative is a bit of criss crossing on some holes.need to have a course guide as you may encounter trouble if you select the wrong club off the tee.
