Description

  • holes:18
  • par: 72 72
  • length: 5.907 m 5.208 m

Perched on the edge of Blessington Lakes in County Wicklow is the golf course at the Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort. Found in the East of Ireland to the South West of the capital Dublin the resort is set in some of the finest and most stunning Irish countryside. Alongside the golf course within the estate is a majestic 18th century manor house which has been lovingly converted in to a luxury accommodation option and the ruins and remains of an early Christian burial ground.

The course was originally just nine holes and was first opened in 1989 however in 1993 the land which the course lies on changed hands and the new owner bought in Patrick Merrigan to see the extension of the course to 18 holes. Faithlegg, Woodenbridge and Slieve Russell are just some of the other courses which have been redesigned and adapted by Merrigan so it is safe to say that Tulfarris is part of an esteemed set.

This 18-hole championship standard parkland style course measures 5910 metres and has a par of 72. The layout here is the traditional two loops of nine and features of the course include: strategic, clever bunkering, a number of water hazards and some tricky dog legs. Mature trees and woodland demand respect and accuracy on this course and precision is vital on many of the holes here to ensure that players achieve their best.

The facilities that serve this course and club include a number of bars and restaurants as well as lounges in which players can relax after their rounds whilst enjoying refreshments. There are also modern locker and shower facilities for all here and the practice facilities are also generous and include a full length driving range as well as a practice putting green.

With regards to tee times for visitors to this course availability is fair and tends to be focused in the morning. Weekend availability is somewhat restricted however if booked far enough in advance there should be a suitable time for all. Green fee rates are very reasonable to play here and offer good value for money.

The course is well located to be easily accessed from much of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland and further afield as the capital Dublin is only 40km away. The obvious accommodation option for visitors here is the affiliated hotel and manor house which also has a number of luxury rooms which will suit most tastes.

Played Tulfarris for the first time on Friday 15th March 2013. What a great course, set around the Blessington Lake. Well designed, no 2 holes are similar and club selection is all important. You can be deceived into thinking its a 7 iron into the green, whereas 5 iron is the right choice. Greens were in good condition (especially considering it is March in Ireland) - warning you can end up having a lot of downhill putts ! Funnily enough water isn't really in play on many holes but you are never far away from great views of the lake or Wicklow mountains. We stayed overnight in the hotel, a great deal. I'll be back.
