Found in one of the Southern coastal areas of Ireland is the Tramore Golf Club and its two golf courses. There is the older, aptly named, Old Course and the more modern Newtown 9 which complements it perfectly. Its slightly inland location within the county of Waterford makes this a good choice for golfing visitors from across most of the country, the city of Waterford itself is around 20 kilometres to the North of the site.

Tramore is cited as one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland and golf in some form has been played on the site since 1894. The Old Course here has been in existence for a considerable time too and noted designers who have had an input on the course include Captain H.C. Tippett who originally hailed from England and Commander John Harris.

This rolling, parkland course comprises of 18 holes and has a par of 72. It measures some 6125 metres off the championship tees and is a tough yet rewarding challenge for even the most skilled of golfers that play here. The character of the original course here shines through however over the years the course has seen a number of upgrades. Greens here are beautifully maintained and undulating and the presence of a number of trees and woodland will require a steady hand and an accurate shot.

Facilities are fair and players are sure to find everything that they should need here. Tee time availability for the Old Course for visitors is generally good and there should be a suitable time for all. Weekend availability is somewhat more restricted however and prior booking is highly recommended so as to avoid disappointment. Considering the prestige and the championship nature of the course here the green fee rates are very reasonable and represent good value for money.

Access to the club from much of the rest of the South of the country is good and transport links from the nearby hub of Waterford to other locations are well-established. With regards to accommodation, there are a number of providers in and around the local area which should suit the tastes and budgets of most. However for those looking for a more cosmopolitan and busier base the city of Waterford itself is the best option and here there is an abundance of providers to choose from.

An excellent course played through soaring mature trees and with fast and true greens. However, the bunkers were not the best I have encountered. A further nine holes are due to come into play soon and these have been cleverly incorporated into the existing course layout and don't look like the typical add-on! No course planners available as they were being reprinted for the new course. I'd certainly like to play there again.
