Located in the north west of  Ireland is the Swinford Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying within County Mayo the course can be found just outside of the town of the same name. The local town has a rich and diverse history spanning centuries and although isn’t as popular with visitors nowadays it still has good general amenities to appeal to all. In terms of places of interest, there are a number of beautiful natural loughs nearby that are well worth a visit by all.

The club has a long and interesting history and the foundations of golf near to the site date back to the mid-19th century. However it was not until 1917 that the sport was first played properly on the site, the club was then fully affiliated with the Golfing Union of Ireland some 5 years later in 1922. The course has obviously seen a number of upgrades and redevelopments over the years to make it the enjoyable and unique course that it is today.

Made up of 9 holes the course is of a parkland style that measures 2715 metres from the medal tees for gentlemen. Features combine here to make an interesting course and players should expect sloping greens of varying sizes, mature woodland and a number of tricky dog legs and blind shots which will require great accuracy and course management from players of all levels.

With regards to facilities, Swinford is modestly appointed to meet the needs of players. There is a cosy bar offering a variety of beverages for all to enjoy after their rounds as well as a function room that is available for hire. There is also a reasonable practice area and trollies are available to hire from here which should help to facilitate play.

Green fee rates for visitors to this course are very reasonable and this is a good value golfing option for many. Tee times for visitors have good general availability and visitors are always warmly welcomed. Throughout the year the club also hosts a number of open competitions for all to enjoy.

From much of the west of Ireland, access to the club is good by road and the major city of  Sligo is just over 60 km to the north of the site and onward links from there are strong.  Northern Ireland is also relatively close by. There are fair accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to most.
