Located in the far east of Northern Ireland is the Saint Patrick’s Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying in Co. Down, the site is just outside of the county town of Downpatrick itself and there is plenty to see and do for visitors of all ages. There are a number of sites of historical and ecclesiastical interest including the ancient ruins of Inch Abbey and Quoile Castle which are rich in heritage and intrigue.

The club recently changed its name in 2014 to Saint Patricks and before then was known simply as Downpatrick Golf Club. The name change was a new chapter for this long standing club which has been in existence since 1929. Over the years the course has seen many changes and modifications some of which were carried out by the well-known Hawtree Ltd dynasty.

Of the popular parkland style, the course here comprises of 18 holes which measure 5460 metres for gentlemen with a par of 69. This is a mature and picturesque course with a very classical feel that is sure to be enjoyed by the more traditional of golfers. Fairways are gently undulating and there is a good scattering of hazards here to provide a sufficient yet enjoyable challenge.

Facilities at the club are very good and all are sure to feel more than welcome here. There is a spacious bar and restaurant area for all to enjoy offering a good selection of refreshments to suit all tastes and palates. Also, there is a well-appointed professional golf shop at the site offering a selection of equipment and apparel for sale as well as repairs on some existing equipment.

Tee time availability for visitors to this course is generally good and there should be a time to suit all if arranged in advance. Weekend availability is obviously somewhat more restricted and this should be noted when booking. Green fee rates are very reasonable here when you consider the quality of both the course and its facilities.

The club is well situated to welcome visitors from much of the rest of the country as well as nearby Ireland. Belfast is only around 40 minutes to the north of the site by car and onward transport links from there to the rest of the United Kingdom as well as further afield are strong. There is a good selection of accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.
