As the name suggests, the golf course at the South Meath Golf Club can be found towards the south of the county of Meath in the east of  Ireland. Just 4 km to the south of the major town of  Trim the course is in a blessed location. Trim has great local facilities and amenities and places of interest include the historical Trim Castle and a number of abbeys and friaries. The town is also well known for the great variety of festivals held regularly here particularly the Trim Haymaking Festival which is held annually in June.

The club is very young compared with many of its fellows in Ireland however that does not detract from its membership numbers and friendly atmosphere. Founded in 1997, the club has a brief yet interesting history. Although opened in 1997, the course was designed by the late Eddie Hackett who passed away in 1996 and this is therefore one of his last ever design works.

Measuring just short of 4980 metres from the white tees and with a par of 69, this course may not be the longest in the world however it is not without its fair share of features. Of a parkland style, the use of water features here is prominent meaning that accuracy and skill are essential here if players wish to do well. The 16th hole is often cited as the signature hole here and will require a straight head in order to not fall foul of its hazards.

Facilities at the club are modest however staff are sure to be able to recommend good establishments in the local area for refreshment.  Green fee rates here are very good value for money making this an accessible golfing option for all. Tee time availability for visitors is also fair and there will be a time to suit all.

The club is well situated between the major settlements of  Dublin and  Mullingar meaning that access here from much of Ireland as well as  Northern Ireland is good by road. With regards to accommodation, there is a good selection of providers in and around the local area from small, cosy B&B’s to larger, luxurious hotels.
