To the west of  Ireland in the central swathe of the country is the Shannon Golf Club and its golf course. Found in County Clare, the course is nestled close to the meandering River Shannon which comes in to play slightly on the 17th hole (well the estuary does anyway!).  The major city of  Limerick is less than half an hour away from the site making this a perfect destination for those wanting a good quality golfing break within easy reach of a bustling, vibrant city.

The club was founded in 1966 and over the years member numbers here have grown well making it a popular choice with locals and visitors alike. The course was designed by a certain John D Harris who has worked on a modest number of courses throughout Ireland. Over the years, the course here has matured exceptionally well which further adds to its appeal.

Of a championship, parkland style the course is finished to the highest of international standards and has hosted a number of important events over the years. Measuring just short of 5900 metres from the medal tees and with a par of 72, this is a fair challenge of a course that has something for all. Nature plays a huge role in the course here so expect a good selection of flora and fauna and fairways blended seamlessly with beautiful natural meadows.

Facilities at the club are excellent and there are well appointed locker and changing facilities as well as two fully licensed bars and a welcoming restaurant for all to enjoy. There is also a professional shop offering a good selection of equipment and apparel and the club is also home to a resident professional offering coaching, tuition and advice. Furthermore there is a putting green upon which players can sharpen up their putting game.

Tee time availability for visitors here is moderate and there should be a time to suit all if arranged in advance. Green fee rates may, at first, seem steep however they reflect the quality of both the course and its facilities and players are sure to enjoy their time here.

Thanks to its proximity with Limerick, transport links to and from much of the rest of Ireland are good although at first they may seem lengthy. Shannon Airport is also close by and offers a number of flights to international destinations including  Spain and  France. Accommodation options are also good in the area and there should be something to suit all.
