The Championship Links golf course makes up the main part of the Royal County Down golf club which was built in 1889 set in the Murlough Nature Reserve in the Mourne Mountains in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. Newcastle is around 1 hour south of Belfast or 2 hours north of Dublin, and is easily accessible via motorway.

The course was designed by Old Tom Morris, a highly regarded golfer and designer, who won The Open Championship three times in his life.

The course is surrounded with magnificent views of the dune-filled landscape and the Dundrum Bay coastline, and is often regarded as one of the best courses in the world. Royal County Down is considered to offer some of the best golfing facilities in the country, providing an exceptional experience for golfers of all abilities.

The Championship course is an 18 hole Links golf course with a par of 71, which spreads itself over 6571 metres. Due to the nature of the course buggies are not allowed, but caddies are usually available, and clubs, shoes and trolleys are available to rent from the club.

Visitor tee times are at 12 minute intervals in groups of 4, allowing the optimum number of golfers to play the course each day. Green fees are relatively low considering its outstanding reputation, however they do fluctuate depending on the season.

The club delivers breath-taking views of both its courses from the Murlough Room, a bar and restaurant within the club, which is open all day with a fully licensed bar. Locker rooms are available for both men and women, with full washroom and shower facilities.

Although the weather in Northern Ireland is normally very wet, Newcastle is positioned in its own micro climate and therefore has a lot less rain than other parts of the country.

As the course is world-renowned, there are places to eat and stay in abundance nearby, which cater to everyone. Check out our golf packages that include this course   here and see the reviews of other customers about this course on  left hand side of this page.
