Located in the far north of  Ireland near to the border with  Northern Ireland is the Rossmore Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying in the lesser known county of Monaghan the local area isn’t particularly known for its golf, however the course here more than makes up for that fact. Just outside of the county town of Monaghan itself, visitors to this club are sure to find good local amenities and a number of places of interest to appeal to all.

Founded in 1916, the course has a rich and diverse history with a fair bit of mystery too. The original clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1925 and the culprit was never found. To begin with the course comprised of just 9 holes, however it was extended to 18 holes in 1992 by the popular partnership of Declan Brannigan and Des Smyth.

The course here is of a beautiful parkland style and measures 5962 metres from the white tees with a par of 70 for gentlemen. This is a very scenic and picturesque course, laid out on gently rolling terrain. Features include matures trees and intelligent bunkering combined with a number of lakes and criss-crossed by streams. Overall this is an interesting course with a fair amount of challenge for all.

Facilities at the club are generally good and include a welcoming bar and restaurant area which all are sure to enjoy after their rounds (it should be noted that restaurant opening times are somewhat restricted). There is also a well-appointed professional golf shop with knowledgeable staff on hand to help with all kinds of queries and purchase requirements.

Green fee rates are reasonable here and are to be expected for a course of this calibre. Tee time availability for visitors is also fair and there is likely to be a time to suit all if arranged in advance with the club.

The club is well located to welcome visitors from the north of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland and the major town of  Armagh is only 40 minutes over the border by car. Accommodation options in and around the local area are fair for visitors and there is likely to be something to suit all.
