Within the heart of  Ireland in the county of Tipperary is the Roscrea Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying near to the border with County Offaly the town of Roscrea itself lies to the west of the site and the course can be found in some of the most picturesque parts of Ireland. There are a number of protected Natural Heritage sites in and around the local area which are bursting with flora and fauna and are both peaceful and serene. The imposing Slieve Bloom Mountains also provide the backdrop here further adding to its beauty.

The club was founded in 1892 making it one of the oldest in Ireland. The members originally played on a nine hole course a short distance away from the current course. The club moved to its current home in 1911 with the desire to extend the course to the full 18 holes at some point in the future. More than 80 years later, in 1992 the new holes were opened for play, said holes were designed by the well-known  Arthur Spring.

Measuring 5862 metres from the white tees with a par of 71, the course here has a very classic feel and features are traditional. Of a parkland style, players here should expect gently rolling and contoured terrain that presents far more of a challenge than first thought. A good scattering of mature trees and well placed hazards combine also to make this an enjoyable course that is a fair challenge for all.

Facilities at the club are basic but fair and most visitors are sure to find most things that they will need for an enjoyable golfing experience. Tee times for visitors have good overall availability and there will be a time to suit all. Perhaps the best option however is one of the open competitions that the club hosts on select days throughout the year. Green fee rates are very reasonable here and offer a good value for money option.

Thanks to its central location, access to the club from much of the rest of Ireland is good and the major towns of Portlaoise and  Birr are not too far away. Accommodation options are fair here and the club has well established links with the local Racket Hall Country House and which offers a number of stay and play packages.
