The Portstewart Golf Club and its associated golf courses can be found in one of the most northerly parts of Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom. Lying in County Londonderry the site is quiet and serene yet the nearby town of Portstewart itself as well as Portrush have good general amenities for visitors. Perched above the churning North Atlantic, the views and panoramas that can be had from here are truly something else.

Home to three golf courses known as The Old, The Strand and The Riverside the club here was first founded in 1894. Each of the three courses have their own appeal and merits with The Strand being the flagship, championship course and The Old being the most sympathetic of the three with The Riverside being a happy medium.

Made up of 18 holes, the course is of the classic links style which is so favoured in these parts. As the name suggests the course lies near to a beautifully ebbing river and measures just under 5030 metres from the white tees with a par of 68. Features are as to be expected for a course of this style and combine to strike the perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment. This is perhaps the course with the most universal appeal for golfers of varying strengths.

Players will find a well-stocked professional golf shop at the site offering a good array of merchandise, equipment and apparel from a number of international brands. The clubhouse is also home to a number of lounge areas for players to unwind and relax in as well as a welcoming bar and restaurant area in which they can partake in refreshments.

The Riverside course is a somewhat popular with players although tee time availability for visitors is still fair and there should be a time to suit all if organised in advance. Green fee rates are very reasonable for this course and offer a good value for money option for those who may find the Strand course out of their price range.

Access to the club by road is relatively good from much of the rest of the country as well as nearby Ireland and the town of Coleraine is only a short drive away and onward transport links from there are strong. With regards to accommodation, the club has a number of links with local providers which should appeal to all tastes and budgets.

I played Portstewart last week. Course is a good test. Greens were lovely. Some of the holes were a bit strange, but over all an enjoyable day. I would reccommend coming and playing Portstewart if in the area, as you will no doubt have a good day, but be warned - it can be wet in November, so maybe better to wait until summer.

Wow, what a course. The front nine has got to be one of the best I've ever played, the views and the dunes (they're massive!) are great. It isn't the easiest course you'll ever play with lots of rough ready to snare any shot off line. I think I'd play a lot better when I play it next time as there are plenty of times when you are unsure which club to hit. Well worth a game and the clubhouse served some cracking food and drink after our golf.

From the first hole with the amazing vistas across Donegal you know this ais going to be a testing day. When the wind blows the course becomes brutal and although the sand dunes offer some protective from the elements it is still a very tough course. As most Northern irish courses are you will be made very welcome on the course and in the clubhouse and links golf doesn't get much better. :)
