Old Head Links Golf Course first opened in 1997, and is located in Kinsale of County Cork in the southwest of Ireland. The course lies just 30 minutes away from the city of Cork or around 3 hours from Dublin.
The course was designed and built by a team of Ron Kirby, Eddie Hackett, Dr. Joe Carr, Liam Higgins, Paddy Merrigan and lastly, Haulie O’Shea. Such an inspiring team was required to construct a course worthy of the break taking landscapes which surround it and which could be played on such elaborate terrain. It is impressive to witness how well they managed to integrate the course and the landscape into one.
As you can see from the photos above, the Old Head golf course is set in a visually stunning location, but the course and its intricacies should not be overlooked, as it too is beyond impressive. The course is set upon a stretch of land which reaches out over 2 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, with high, jagged cliff tops on either side.
There are over 6584m of the extravagant course to be played on, with a total par of 72. Due to the nature of the course caddies are recommended, and Old Head now lays claim to the largest and most proficient Caddies programme in the world.
The club itself boasts its ability to provide the ultimate golf experience, as the club also provides accommodation for its visitors, with sea view or presidential suites on offer. Within the clubhouse you can also find a bar and a 5-star Restaurant with the formal and newly opened private dining area.
Golf stewards are also present on arrival to the club to provide cleaning services for clothes, shoes and golfing equipment. There is also the Old Head Spa onsite with a full thermal spa including a sauna and a steam room, as well as treatment rooms which provide a range of therapies and treatments. The club also has a recently installed fitness suite with top of the range equipment.
Green fees for this course vary greatly depending on the season, but it’s possible to cut costs by playing games during “twilight”. Golf carts, clubs and soft spikes are all available to rent and there is an extensive collection of golfing equipment in the pro store too.
The course has several practice facilities, including a 12 tee driving range, a putting green, pitching green, chipping green and a practise bunker, along with locker facilities available for use by all customers.
Kinsale is a popular tourist destination in its own right, providing many activities alongside golf to make the most of your visit. Horseback riding, fishing and other water sports are available all year round, as well as there being several museums and places of interest to visit. Kinsale is home to the annual Food Festival, meaning it is also home to some of the best places to eat in the country, regardless of taste or budget.

Amazing Course10/11/2014this review is the subjective opinion of a GOLFBOO user and not of GOLFBOO S.LOld Head Golf Links is undoubtedly one of the best golf courses I have ever played! Although it is very challenging (especially when the wind picks up), each time I have visited this course I have had an unbelievable experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course to anyone thinking of coming here! The staff are very friendly too - they make you feel really special and the old Irish hospitality certainly shines through! Amazing course!

Speechless04/07/2013this review is the subjective opinion of a GOLFBOO user and not of GOLFBOO S.LAll eighteen holes provide stunning ocean views, you play all the day with the sea breezes. This course is perfect to walk, because it is not a hilly course. It is in perfect condition all the year round and the staff are lovely!
