In County Wexford lies the golf course at the New Ross Golf Club towards the south east of Ireland. Nestled between the Barrow and Nore valleys the course here is scenic to say the least and the Blackstairs and Brandon Mountains provide a stunning backdrop which visitors are sure to enjoy. Found near to the River Barrow and the border that the county shares with Kilkenny, the town of New Ross itself is to the south east of the site and has fair amenities for all.

The club was founded in 1905 and has since celebrated its centenary. Steeped in history the course here originally consisted of just nine holes however was extended to 18 in 1995. The course redesign and extension was undertaken by the dynamic partnership of Declan Brannigan and Des Smyth who have worked both individually and together on a number of courses throughout Ireland.

Measuring 5795 metres from the white tees and with a par of 70 the course is of a traditional parkland style. Laid out on gently rolling land, the greens here are beautifully contoured and tree lined fairways combined with intelligent bunkering and water hazards make this an interesting and enjoyable yet challenging course for all.

Facilities at the club include changing rooms complete with showers and lockers as well as a large bar offering a good selection of refreshments as well as a warm Irish welcome. Furthermore, there are a number of lounge areas for players to relax in after their rounds. There is also a well-appointed pro shop offering a selection of items as well as a resident professional offering coaching and tuition for players of all levels.

Visitors are warmly welcomed here on every day of the week although advanced booking is recommended as some tee times are restricted for members only. Green fee rates are very reasonable and offer good value for money. Both tee times and green fee rates change depending upon the time of the week and/or season and this should be noted when booking.

From much of the south of Ireland it is easy to get here by car and the major city of Waterford is only 25 km to the south of the site. There are fair accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.

The aspect that stood out for me about New Ross was the condition of the course - for tee to green it was excellent. The greens were the best I've played on for a long long time and I've played a lot
