Found in County Westmeath in the heart of Ireland is the golf course at New Forest Golf Club. This is somewhat of a modern course within the country however it has received much critical acclaim since its opening. Set in a large, historical estate the course here blends the beautiful natural surroundings and countryside with the modern amenities that players require as standard in this day in age. This is without a doubt a stunning location in which to enjoy a day of golf and relaxation.
Although the estate and the imposing New Forest Manor House were constructed in the 18th century the golf course here is a recent addition and was opened for play in the summer months of 2006. The course was designed by golfing legend and skilled designer Peter McEvoy who is a favourite amongst Irish clubs having worked on the Fota Island and Powerscourt courses as well.
This 18-hole parkland course measures 5570 metres from the yellow tees and has a par of 72. The natural features of the estate including mature trees and marshland areas have been blended seamlessly with the design of the course and the steadily undulating terrain here works well. Water, sand and trees combine to make the majority of challenges here and the concluding hole of the front nine must be mentioned as it is entirely contained within a walled garden and is one to note here.
The facilities here are excellent and there is a bar and restaurant onsite, furthermore there are lounge areas within the clubhouse for players to enjoy and full changing and locker facilities which are of a high-standard. Also there is a professional golf shop which is well appointed and at present the club is currently constructing installations for a golfing academy which, when finished, will further add to the experience here.
Green fee rates for visitors to this course are very reasonable and offer good value for money for those wanting to enjoy a round. Although the club has a number of members the tee times for visitors here are very generous and there should definitely be a time to suit all throughout the week. That said during the summer months and peak time, availability can be slightly more limited.
Thanks to its central location within the country the course has good transport links to much of the rest of the country by road. The nearest airport is that of Dublin which offers a vast array of international flights on a daily basis. With regards to accommodation the New Forest estate is also home to a number of holiday properties which are perfect for those wishing to stay close to the course. They are of varying size and price however they are all well-appointed and finished to the highest of standards.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for New Forest. is the average of 1 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukI have played New Forest for the second time recently and enjoyed it even more than the first time. I have played most highly ranked courses in Leinster abd believe that New Forest has to be one of the best golf courses in Leinster and probably in Ireland: fantastic and challenging design, top quality greens, beautiful fairways, water into play on many holes, some real parkland holes and others with a real links feel, several signature holes and the course is actually quite matured despite the fact that it is just a few years old. I am really surprised that this course is just ranked 74th. It surely will change very soon I guess.
