In the heart of Ireland is where you will find the golf course at Mullingar Golf Club. Lying in County Westmeath the course lies to the south of the town from which it takes its name which also happens to be the county town. Local amenities are therefore good and Mullingar town has a number of places of interest for visitors to enjoy including a number of beautiful loughs which are popular with anglers as well as the majestic Belvedere House and Gardens.
The course and club here have been in existence since 1935 and both have a rich and interesting history. Designed by the world famous James Braid who is probably best known for his work in nearby England and Scotland the course here is a true masterpiece. Although the course may have seen a few cosmetic changes and upgrades over its life, the Braid hallmarks still shine through to all that play here.
Laid out in two loops of nine this 18 hole course is routed perfectly to provide players with ample opportunity for refreshment. Stretching 6113 metres the course here has a par of 72 and a very classic feel. Made up of 10 par 4’s, 4 par 3’s and 4 par 5’s the features of the course are extensive and even the most experienced of players are sure to find this an exhilarating course.
The club is well equipped to meet the needs of any modern golfer and there is both a bar and lounge area for players to enjoy everything from a relaxed cappuccino to maybe something a little stronger. There is also a restaurant serving up a scrumptious selection of dishes using local produce where possible. Practice facilities are also good and there is both a practice putting and chipping green as well as a mini driving range upon which players can hone their skills.
Tee times for visitors here have fair availability and there should be a time to suit all, particularly if peak times such as weekends are avoided. Green fee rates are moderate here but they reflect the quality of the course and its facilities.
Thanks to its central location the club is easy to reach from most of Ireland as well as nearby Northern Ireland by road. Accommodation options in and around the local area are fair and the club has a number of links with local providers.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for Mullingar Golf Club. is the average of 2 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukI have played this course on more than one occasion. I understand that the course has gone under some renovations, greens have been moved and new bunkers have been added. David Jones the former tour pro has been responsible for the changes. It has to be said that the new changes are for the better. I played the old layout and the new, and from speaking to some of the members the new layout is a much sterner test. They say that it is 2 to 3 shots harder than the old layout. The course has not lost its personality with the new changes, James Braids influence is still there to be seen and this is still why I return to play it every year. This course can be enjoyed by all golfers whether you are off scratch or 24.You have to be able to move you ball both ways on this course to stay out of the way of the mature trees and the strategically placed bunkers. They say that to have a good score in golf you need to do well at the par 3s. It is no different here the second hole is a terrific par 3 it measures over 200 yards from the championship markers to an elevated green that is well protected by bunkers-a great hole. The other par 3s are not as tough as this one but still demand the utmost respect. If you have a good score here you know that you have played well Looking forward to playing it again.
