Nestled in Central Ireland is the Mountrath Golf Club and its associated golf course. Located within County Laois, the course here lies just outside of the small historical town of the same name. The town itself is rich in history and dates back many hundreds of years and although not the largest town in the world, visitors here are sure to receive a warm Irish welcome and a perfect pint of the black stuff.

Like the town, the eponymous golf club also has an interesting history and the foundations of the club began back in 1929 when a group of notable locals decided to form a golf club. Later in the very same year the required land was rented and the course opened for play. The course was affiliated with the Golfing Union of Ireland back in 1932. The club has survived a number of tough times and its crowning glory came in 1994 when the original nine hole course was extended to 18 holes.

Measuring 5780 metres from the white tees this course has a par of 71. Of a parkland style, features here include stretching fairways and well-maintained greens. The course here is suitable for golfers of most levels and there should be enough here to entertain more experienced players whilst still nurturing the talents of those that are newer to the sport. Overall, the course here can be enjoyed by all which surely adds to its appeal.

Facilities at this club are good and can be found in the modern clubhouse. Changing and shower facilities are at the disposal of all players and there is a bar and restaurant area offering a variety of refreshments which players can enjoy after their rounds. The clubhouse itself is a beautiful, light space offering some fantastic views over the nearby Slieve Bloom Mountains.

Tee time availability for visitors to this course is generally good and players are sure to find a tee time to suit. Thursdays and weekends are reserved for members though and this should be noted when booking. Green fee rates here are very reasonable and offer good value for money when you consider the quality of the course and facilities here. Throughout the year the club hosts a number of open competitions which can be enjoyed by visitors and members alike.

As the club is found centrally within Ireland, the road links to and from the nearby area are relatively good and visitors should have no problem in getting here. There are a number of accommodations in and around the local area also which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.
