Lying in County Galway towards the west of Ireland is the Mountbellew Golf Club and its associated golf course. Located to the south of the town of Ballinasloe in the east of the county the local area is very quaint and picturesque yet there are good amenities here for visitors. The bustling metropolitan of Galway itself is around 60 km to the west of the site and there are many attractions and places of interest there including Galway Cathedral and Terryland Castle.

Founded in 1929 the club here has an interesting and diverse history. Originally comprising of 9 holes the course was extended to the full 18 hole layout more recently in 2008. Designers that have worked on the course here over the years include Ken Kearney who, although not well known, is still a gifted designer.

The course here is of a beautiful parkland style and measures some 5169 metres from the white tees with a par of 71. This is a very scenic course with some lovely surroundings and natural water comes into play on no less than seven of the eighteen holes here. Bunkers and hazards are well placed to really test the accuracy of players of all skill levels yet the four par 5’s of the course are still a good chance for long hitters to shine. A varied course with plenty of challenge, all are sure to have an enjoyable round here.

Facilities at the club are good and include a welcoming bar and restaurant area in which players can enjoy a variety of refreshments. Trollies and buggies are also available to hire here and will help to facilitate play. With regards to golf itself, practice facilities are good here and there is a practice area complete with pitching and putting area upon which players can refine their skills.

Tee time availability for players to this course is generally good and there should be a time to suit all if booked in advance. Green fee rates are very reasonable here and offer great value for money. There are a number of great value membership options available here also which are perfect for those wanting to make this a permanent fixture on their golfing calendar.

Access to the club by road is very good from much of the rest of Ireland as it is located quite centrally. Galway and Athlone which are found nearby offer better transport links to other locations including the nearby United Kingdom. Accommodation options in and around the local area are fair and there should be something to suit the needs and budgets of most visitors.
