Mitchelstown Golf Club and its associated golf course can be found in central southern Ireland within the county of Cork. The site lies to the north of the town of Mitchelstown itself after which the club was named and there are a number of places of interest for visitors to the area. Said places of interest include the unusual Mitchelstown Caves which are an excellent example of geological formations within Ireland. The town is also well-known for its cheese production which is one of its biggest sources of industry and employment.
The golf club here was founded back in 1908 and recently celebrated its centenary. Over the duration of its life the course played on by the club has seen a number of redevelopments and upgrades and although the designers remain uncredited it is clear that some gifted people have worked on this course.
Of a parkland style the course here consists of 18 holes, measuring 5493 metres from the white tees this is a par 70 course. Features here are very traditional of the parkland style and include well-manicured greens and fairways as well as a number of natural water features such as ponds and streams. A good presence of mature trees also create a number of hazards and all combine to make this an interesting and enjoyable course with its fair share of a challenge.
Facilities at the club are fair and there should be everything here to meet the needs of most modern golfers. There is a bar and restaurant area which players can enjoy after their rounds in which they are sure to receive a warm Irish welcome. Practice facilities include a modest practice area as well as a putting green and there is a caddy car service available here.
Green fee rates here are very reasonable and offer a good value for money option for those wanting to play here. Tee time availability is fair and there should be a time to suit all if booked far enough in advance. Obviously weekend availability is somewhat restricted but is still fair also.
The club is relatively well connected to the rest of Ireland by road and the nearby transport hubs of Mallow and Clonmel can offer better links. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets also.
