Nestled in some prime Irish countryside in the south of Ireland is the Mallow Golf Club and its associated golf course. Thanks to its blessed location the views that can be had of the nearby surroundings here are excellent and the local wildlife is also plentiful. Although in the heart of the countryside the course lies only a short 30 minute drive away from the bustling city of Cork making it a great location for a golfing retreat.

The club here was founded more than 100 years ago and is steeped in history. The course is often cited as one of the best within the province of Munster and its history and quality shine through for all who visit here. It was designed by a certain J D Harris.

Consisting of 18 holes, the course here is of a parkland style and has a par of 72. Measuring just over 5590 metres from the yellow tees the features of this course are extensive and are spread over some tricky undulating terrain. Expect a lot of tree lined fairways and elevation changes throughout this course as well as a tricky layout which demands respect from even the most advanced of players in order for them to do well. This is a tricky yet beautiful course and one that can be enjoyed by a great array of golfers.

Facilities at the club are good and are housed mainly in the welcoming clubhouse in which all players are sure to experience a warm Irish welcome. Here you will find a spacious and traditional bar and restaurant offering a wide range of refreshments. Practice facilities are also very good here and the practice area includes a practice putting green as well as an area for chipping and bunker play upon which players can hone their skills. Finally you will find a well-appointed professional golf shop here offering a wide array of products from international brands that is staffed by the resident PGA professional.

Green fee rates for visitors to this course are generally reasonable and offer good value for money. Tee time availability is also good and there should be a time to suit all if booked far enough in advance. Both green fee rates and tee time availability change somewhat depending upon the time of the week and season however there are usually a number of discounts available to play here.

The club is relatively well connected to much of the south of Ireland by road and onward transport links from the nearby city of Cork to the rest of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland and the rest of the nearby United Kingdom are good. With regards to accommodation, there are a number of options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.

We have played this course in August 2013. The pro shop is very small, very friendly Pro/Secretary, greenfee low (€25), old, buggy begins interesting gasoline (€25), the square, the two first par 3 are many trees, typical of parkland very nice, downhill,. From the 12, the place is but uneventful, the railways go completely messed up. The women's tee-off in direct shot and landing zone of other railways is on several cars. Here was poorly planned. Slightly annoying is that one has to play Declinations on 15 cars, and accordingly all the time over or under the ball. Ugly.
