Just to the North of the Irish capital Dublin in County Dublin itself is the golf course at Malahide Golf Club. An interesting and exciting course that is set just outside of the coastal suburban town of the same name which has plenty in the way of attractions and places of interest for all. Some attractions of interest include the majestic nearby Malahide Castle and gardens and the town’s sizeable marina.

The club was founded in the late 19th century, 1892 to be exact, by the well-known Irish landscape painter Nathaniel Hone which makes it one of the oldest in the country. Originally consisting of 9 links holes the course here fell victim to corrosion early on in its life leading to the abandonment of the course in the late 1920’s and the subsequent relocation of the course to an inland site. The course as we know it today was constructed in 1990 by the late, great Eddie Hackett and has remained in the current location ever since.

A complex of 27 holes, now of a parkland style, the course here is split in to three loops of nine which are referred to simply as the Red, Blue and Yellow. Both the Blue and Red course have undergone various transformations in recent years to add to the challenge here. It is the choice of players which of the loops they choose however the combination of the Blue and Red nine is always a popular one and these have a combined distance of 5708 metres and a par of 70.

The facilities at this golf club are good and include an ample bar and restaurant for players to enjoy as well as a cosy members only bar. Furthermore there is a professional golf shop staffed by PGA professionals and there are installations for snooker here also.

Tee time availability for visitors to this course is fair and there is more than likely a time to suit all during the week however at weekends, availability is more restricted. Visitors to the course can book which of the loops they begin on and the green fee rates for eighteen holes are very reasonable and offer good value for money considering the quality of the course and facilities here.

Thanks to the proximity of the course to the capital Dublin, transport links to the rest of Ireland as well as Northern Ireland and further afield are generally good. With regards to accommodation there are a number of options in and around the local area as well as in nearby Dublin which are sure to appeal to all.
