Located in the suburbs of the city of Cork in the far south of Ireland is the golf course at the Mahon Golf Club. Within County Cork itself the local area is full of great golf courses meaning that the one at Mahon is in excellent company. Thanks to its proximity to the city centre of Cork it means this course is a popular choice with locals and visitors alike and all are sure to enjoy play here.

The course was commissioned to be built by Cork City council and was the first purpose built municipal course within the whole of Ireland. In 1978 the council commissioned the well-known Eddie Hackett to design the course that officially opened in 1980. Hackett worked on many courses throughout Ireland during his illustrious career which goes to show the calibre of the course here.

This is an 18 hole course and is of a classic parkland style. Stretching some 5033 metres from the white tees the course here has a par of 70. Features of this course include gently undulating terrain and demanding greens as well as a significance presence of mature trees and tricky water hazards. Players of varying skill levels and strengths are sure to enjoy their play here and experience a challenging yet enjoyable round.

Facilities at the club are good and the council also helped to fund the construction of the modern clubhouse that was opened in 2003. Here you will find a reception area as well as a number of comfortable lounge areas for players to enjoy after their rounds. There are also ladies and gents locker rooms complete with shower and changing facilities so all players here are sure to find everything they could need. There is also a modest professional golf shop selling a number of items.

As the course is owned by the council (although operation is outsourced) the green fee rates here for all are very reasonable and offer good value for money making this an affordable course for all. Tee time availability is also good and there should be a time to suit all here.

Thanks to its proximity with the city centre of Cork access here from much of the rest of Ireland is good. Also there a number of daily ferry crossings from Cork to France so access for visitors from there is also good. With regards to accommodation there are a number of options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes and budgets.
