Located in the mid-west of Ireland is the Loughrea Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying in County Galway the location of this course is blessed with good transport links to much of the rest of the country and Galway can be reached in 20 minutes and Dublin in less than 2 hours by car. The club and course here take their name from the nearby lough which is both tranquil and serene as well as offering a number of splendid vistas.

The club has a rich and diverse history and its foundations date back to 1914. Originally the club played on just a nine hole layout which was properly laid out in 1954 at the current site however as the popularity of the club grew and membership numbers bolstered. plans were put in place to extend the course. The renowned Eddie Hackett was bought in to extend and upgrade the course which was completed in 1992.

Now consisting of 18 holes the course here is of a parkland style so favoured by golfers in Ireland.  Measuring 5825 metres from the blue tees the course has a par of 71 for gentlemen and has a very traditional feel. Good natural drainage allows the course to be played on all year round and greens here are maintained to the highest of standards. This is a fair yet challenging course and one that can be enjoyed by played of varying standards.

There are fair facilities here and players are sure to enjoy the views that can be had over the course from the bar and restaurant here which serve a great array of refreshments. Green fee rates here for visitors are very reasonable making this a good value golfing installation. Tee time availability is also fair and the club is proud to host a number of open competitions throughout the year for both members and visitors to enjoy.

As mentioned above transport links both to and from the club and from much of the rest of Ireland are good. With regards to accommodation there are a number of small independent providers in the local area that should appeal to most tastes and budgets. For those looking for something bigger and perhaps more luxurious, nearby Galway is the best option for a wider selection of accommodation.
