The 5 star Lough Erne Resort lies in the far south west of Northern Ireland within County Fermanagh. As the name suggests, the complex lies very close to the tranquil Lough Erne and is the perfect spot for a golfing getaway. Not only is the resort home to two excellent golf courses, but visitors will also find excellent dining options, a luxurious spa and world class conference and event facilities. Only recently did the resort receive much media attention and appraisal as it was the venue for the 2013 G8 Summit of Nations and welcomed visitors such as the American president Barack Obama.
As one would think, the resort here is a relatively modern addition to the Enniskillen countryside and is well appointed to meet the needs of all- American president included! The site is home to two championship standard courses, The Faldo and the Castle Hume. The Faldo course is the flagship and has seen a number of famous faces play here over the years including the world famous Rory McIlroy who also happens to be the resorts touring professional.
Made up of 18 holes, the flagship Faldo course was designed by the renowned Nick Faldo and is of a championship, parkland style. Stretching just over 6550 metres from the black tees and with a par of 72, the course is a real test of stamina and skill for even the most advanced of players. Features include deceptively tricky greens and fairways that are perfectly maintained as well as ample water features which come in to play on a number of holes. The Lough from which the complex takes its name comes in to play on no less than 11 of the holes here so players need to ensure accuracy.
As touched on previously, the facilities at the resort are excellent and include a number of dining and drinking options for all to enjoy. The courses are watched over by The Loughside Clubhouse which is home to locker rooms and changing facilities as well as a well-stocked pro shop offering an array of equipment and apparel as well as the resort’s own personalised merchandise. The resort is also home to an excellent Golf Academy facility that is perfect for players who wish to polish up their game.
Priority with regards to tee times here is given to residents of the onsite hotel however there is fair availability for others if booked in advance, although obviously this is a popular course. Green fee rates reflect the nature and prestige of the course and the resort as a whole and players here are paying for far more than just a round of golf.
The resort is well situated to receive visitors from much of the west of the country as well as nearby Ireland. The nearest major population hub is that of Enniskillen which is only around 10 minutes to the south of the site by car and onward transport links from there are strong. With regards to accommodation, the obvious choice here is the affiliated hotel which has a number of room and suite options as well as individual rental homes which are sure to appeal to the tastes of most.

One of the best courses in Ireland28/01/2015this review is the subjective opinion of a GOLFBOO user and not of GOLFBOO S.LI would certainly rate this as one of the top golf courses in Ireland. Not only is it a fantastic course (the views are unbelievable too!), but the service is first class too - I love playing golf at Lough Erne Resort.
