Found in the south west of Northern Ireland is the extensive and luxurious Lough Erne Resort. Located in some of the finest countryside that the area has to offer, there is plenty at the resort to entertain visitors of all ages and tastes. There is not one, but two championship golf courses, a relaxing spa and excellent conference facilities that have played host to a number of world leaders such as Barack Obama and David Cameron as this was the venue for the 2013 G8 Summit.
The resort is home to two excellent golf courses, the flagship Faldo course and the lesser known Castle Hume course which is played on by members of the local Castle Hume Golf Club. There is little known about the designer of the Castle Hume course however it is clear to all that play here that it has matured well over the years and has even played host to a number of major tournaments and championships.
Made up of 18 holes that are of a parkland style, the course is very scenic and picturesque and the views that can be had from here are truly breath-taking. Measuring just under 5500 metres from the white tees and with a par of 70, the features here are very traditional and include a strong presence of mature and regal trees as well as well-placed bunkers and ponds to add challenge. This is an enjoyable and beautiful course and one that is sure to appeal to golfers of most playing styles.
Although the course has its own club, the resort owns and operates some of the facilities here for players meaning that they are extensive and of the highest quality. The practice facilities are excellent and the golfing academy is a must visit for those that wish to better their game, with this being the main shared facility. The club has its own independent clubhouse which is home to a bar and restaurant area for players to enjoy after their rounds, the clubhouse is also open to the public and is a popular choice with locals looking for a good bite to eat.
The course is played on by the Castle Hume Golf Club but is still part of the larger resort and is a popular choice with visitors. However it should be noted that members have a strong presence here and tee time availability is somewhat restricted. Green fee rates here are reasonable in comparison to the other course at the resort and reflect the fact that it is not a wholly integrated part of the estate.
Access to the course is good by road and the major town of Enniskillen is found nearby which has good onward links to elsewhere in the country as well as nearby Ireland. The obvious accommodation option for visitors here are the numerous room and suite options offered by the Lough Erne hotel and this well-appointed hotel is sure to suit most.
