Description

Lahinch Golf Club is home to two exquisite links golf courses, the second of which is the slightly shorter but ever as impressive Castle Course. The club can be found in Lahinch, County Clare in western Ireland, 40 minutes from Shannon International Airport or an hour away from Limerick.

Commander John D. Harris constructed the Castle Course in the 70’s, and lies just across the road from the Old Course.

The Castle Course (so named because of its views of Dough Castle from the 7th hole) is shorter than the Old Course at 5115m long, and is often described as more forgiving than its brother with its par of 70, yet is still a joy to play.

Green Fees for this course are a lot cheaper than the Old Course, with steady prices throughout the year, and discounts for a second round and group bookings. Pull carts and battery-operated trollies are available to hire from the club, as are caddies as long as prior notice is given to the club.

The clubhouse has its own restaurant which boasts a host of local foods, as well as a pro shop to provide you with everything you may need for an excellent round.

As Lahinch is situated on the coast of Ireland, weather conditions are typically stronger than more central regions, requiring you to take into account the wind when taking your shot, but otherwise leaving your game unaffected. However, the Castle Course rests behind the Old Course, and therefore is slightly more sheltered from the sea breeze.

Lahinch is also a great place for those who love walking, with several heritage sites not far from the course, and water sports and sailing are usually on offer during the summer months for the more adventurous. Whatever you enjoy, Lahinch has something for everyone.

Played Lahinch Old for the first time last October. Have played many links course in GB & Ireland (including Muirfield, St Andrews Old, Royal Dornoch, Moray, Cruden Bay, Machrihanish, Hillside, S&A, Royal Cinque Ports, St Enodoc, Royal Portrush-Dunluce, Portmarnock, Co. Sligo, Ballyliffin & Baltray) and Lahinch has gone to the top of my list. Just love playing in the dunes with several blind holes & great views although admittedly it's probably too challenging for me.

Played the sister course 'the castle' with my mate Mark end of July 09. It was £25 for the round, what a bargain it was in stunning condition, all holes were a test and interesting (espescially for me as I had a mare) mark scored 38 points of the whites!! Great reception with a pencil and course planner given out by the lovely receptionist. Recommend this course every time. We have committed to go back to the more expensive old course soon, that looked even more awesome. Clubhouse was nice but food was basic, as we found across our tour of Ireland. Am glad to say that I have played Lahinch even if it was the sister course - superb..
