Found in County Kildare to the East of Ireland is the Knockanally Golf and Country Club and its associated golf course.  Lying west of the capital Dublin in the historical area of Ovidstown, Donadea is where you will find this stunning parkland course set in a spacious estate.  Although it is quite secluded and offers a serene setting in which to play golf it is only a stone’s throw away from some of the main motorways of the country; not that you would realise that whilst standing on the peaceful greens!

The course was opened in 1985 and it is a grand shame that there is no official accredited designer as this course really is a great showcase of features which perfectly complement each other to create an enjoyable yet testing round of golf.

Its 18 holes stretch over 5906 metres from the white tees and they offer a par of 72. Expect numerous water hazards throughout the course interspersed with mature trees which provide an array of challenges for players. A number of tricky doglegs across the course ensure that players are kept on their toes at all times and accuracy is essential on many holes so as to have a good round. There is enough here to both challenge more experienced players whilst still nurturing the talents of those who may have less experience.

Facilities at Knockanally are good if a little sparse. There is an excellent restaurant and bar on site which provide a variety of refreshments to both members and visitors. Buggies and trolleys are also available to hire however availability is limited so it is essential to book in advance so as to avoid disappointment.

The golf club at Knockanally is very member orientated however visitors are warmly welcomed at certain times. There are a number of open competitions across the year which allow visitors to play alongside members and see how they measure up. In terms of tee times for visitors, availability is fair and there should be times to suit the needs of most. Green fee rates for this course offer exceptional value for money considering the standard of the course which makes this a very affordable option for those looking for an enjoyable and challenging game.

Due to its proximity to the nearby motorways, getting to the site from the rest of Ireland is relatively straightforward and hence it is easy to connect to destinations which are further afield also. In terms of accommodation there are a number of suitable options in and around the local area which should appeal to most tastes.
