Lying next to the magnificent Killarney National Park in County Kerry towards the South West of Ireland is Mahony’s Point golf course which is part of the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club complex. Found just outside of the town of Killarney the resort here was, until recently, home to three courses however due to unforeseeable circumstances one is sadly closed at present. However the two that remain, Mahony’s Point and Killeen, have plenty to offer to players of varying strength and skill.
Records of golf being played on or near to the site date back to the end of the 19th century however Mahony’s Point was opened in 1939. It was supposed to be based loosely on the world famous Augusta course that can be found in the United States and is a combined design effort of Henry Downing and Doctors J and E O’Sullivan.
The course measures 6164 metres in total and has a par of 72, it is located perfectly and affords some excellent views of the surrounding countryside not to mention the flora and fauna. Play here is best described as a refreshing and enjoyable challenge that combines perfectly undulating greens with just the right amount of bunkers and water which prevent players from resting too much on their laurels.
As the site is home to more than one golf course the facilities here are good and include a welcoming and comfortable bar which also serves food. There is also a well-stocked pro shop which was opened for business in 2008 so is modern throughout and provides a great array of merchandise and apparel. Practice facilities are also good here and include a driving range as well as putting and chipping greens upon which players can hone their skills.
Tee times for visitors here are generous and there should be a time to suit the needs of most players. Green fee rates are relatively good value for money especially for those playing in larger parties. It should be noted that the courses at Killeen are sometimes subject to health and safety issues brought about due to severe weather conditions and they are not always accessible. It is therefore highly recommended to contact the club prior to your visit to receive the latest updates.
Although it is somewhat secluded the club and its courses are fairly well connected to much of the South of Ireland however journeys can be lengthy. That said, there are a number of excellent accommodation options in and around the local area which can provide visitors with overnight stays making this a good local for a golfing break.

Calm day but wet under foot. Opening holes are some of the best I have ever played. The scenery can put you off your game because it is so beautiful. I look forward to coming back.(Round played: Sep 2016 - Score: 88 Handicap: 14)

Juli 2014
Average rating obtained byThis rating for Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. is the average of 3 ratings obtained from www.golfreiswijzer.nlAugust 2011 the Killeen played. Parkland course that runs along the Lake a couple of times. Very spacious fairways with good not tricky greens. 1 day ahead books still gives enough chance to play. A pity was that golfers were admitted without CFP level. I saw e.g. 3 (!) players from 1 bag play. Club House is messy, pressure (there are 54 holes!) and the kitchen weing inspiring.
