The Killeen golf course at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club can be found in the South West of Ireland in County Kerry. Situated just outside of the town of Killarney, the establishment is currently home to two golf courses, the main Killeen Course and the almost equally as grand Mahony’s Point. The local surroundings and backdrop of mountains and swirling lakes provide a breath-taking setting on which to enjoy a round of golf.
Golf at the site dates back to the late 19th century, 1891 to be specific. However the Killeen course was first originally opened for play back in 1972 and was developed by the gifted duo of Eddie Hackett and Billy O’Sullivan. A remodelled and updated Killeen was opened up again in 2006 after undergoing a number of transformations which were carried out by a number of designers including Donald Steel and Mackenzie & Ebert.
Measuring just shy of 6600 metres the Killeen has a par of 72. Water features prominently throughout the whole course and is practically utilised on every hole. The most recent modifications have led to a longer course and faster greens which combine to make an enjoyable course which is not lacking in toughness either.
The facilities at Killarney are of a good standard and include The Horseshoe Bar which provides an array of food and drink which players can enjoy after their rounds whilst offering some fantastic views over the course. Practice facilities here include a driving range as well as putting and chipping greens.
Tee times for visitors to this course are generally good and there tends to be a fair range of availability during the weekday. Weekend availability is also fair however is somewhat restricted. Green fees are also reasonable here. However it should be noted that the club sometimes suffers from severe weather-related problems with regards to health and safety meaning that it isn’t always open/accessible and it is best to contact the club in advance before visiting so as to avoid disappointment.
Around 3km away from Killarney itself the club and course are relatively well connected to much of the rest of Ireland by road although it can be time-consuming due to its location at the edge of the stunning Killarney National Park. The club has a number of links with local establishments with regards to accommodation which include everything from guest houses to self-catering options.

Calm day but wet under foot. Opening holes are some of the best I have ever played. The scenery can put you off your game because it is so beautiful. I look forward to coming back.(Round played: Sep 2016 - Score: 88 Handicap: 14)

Juli 2014
Average rating obtained byThis rating for Killarney Golf & Fishing Club. is the average of 3 ratings obtained from www.golfreiswijzer.nlAugust 2011 the Killeen played. Parkland course that runs along the Lake a couple of times. Very spacious fairways with good not tricky greens. 1 day ahead books still gives enough chance to play. A pity was that golfers were admitted without CFP level. I saw e.g. 3 (!) players from 1 bag. Club House is messy, pressure (there are 54 holes!) and the kitchen weing inspiring.
