Kilkenny Golf Club and its golf course can be found to the south of the Irish Midlands in the county from which it takes its name. The course and club lie just on the outskirts of the city of Kilkenny meaning that both amenities and access here are good. There are many places of interest in and around Kilkenny and attractions include Kilkenny Castle and the ancient city walls as well as a number of museums, galleries and theatres. There is something for visitors of all ages in the city.

Founded in 1896, the club has a long and interesting history and is amongst the oldest in Ireland. The club has played on a number of courses dotted in and around the local area over the years although the designer of the current course remains un-noted.

Of a parkland style, the course here is made up of 18 holes and measures some 5908 metres from the white tees with a par of 71. The first hole here is cited by many as one of the finest opening holes in the entire country and the features here are a continuation from this bold claim. Well placed hazards as well as beautifully maintained yet tough greens combine to create an enjoyable course with a good amount of a challenge.

Facilities at the club are good and there is a clubhouse which is home to a bar and full catering services which players can enjoy after their rounds. There is also a well-appointed professional golf shop here with a good selection of equipment, apparel and merchandise available to purchase. A number of items are also available to hire from here and these should help to facilitate play.

Tee time availability for visitors is generally good and there should be a time to suit all if peak times such as weekends are avoided. Green fee rates here reflect the quality of the course and its facilities as well as the prestige and age of the club.

The club has good links to much of the south of Ireland and visitors should have little difficulty finding the location. Accommodation options in Kilkenny are plentiful and there will be something to suit all.

The course is flat and can use a makeover. This very old places have a great tradition. If you have fun but really want should you look at a different place.
