Found in the North Eastern corner of County Laois in the East of Ireland is The Heritage Golf and Spa Resort and its affiliated golf course. The resort is set in a large estate and boasts a plethora of features and facilities for visitors here to enjoy and is equally appealing to both golfers and non-golfers alike making this a perfect retreat for all.
The resort is home to two golf courses, the championship Ballesteros course which was designed by the late golfing legend Seve Ballesteros in collaboration with Jeff Howes and the smaller par 3 golf academy course. The resort and course are both modern and the Ballesteros course was opened for play in 2004, some 3 years after construction began which goes to show the time and effort which was put in to create this fantastic golf course.
Of a championship standard, this 18-hole parkland course measures just shy of 6300 metres from the white tees and has a par of 72. The design features used throughout the course are plentiful and grand including almost 100 strategic bunkers and more than 7000 trees. Laid out in two large loops of nine the course has the stunning Slieve Bloom Mountains as a backdrop and water comes in to play on no less than 10 of the 18 holes here.
Although part of a larger resort the golf course here has its own facilities which are spread over three floors in the spacious clubhouse. Players can enjoy a bite to eat in Greens restaurant or just a drink in the Spike Bar. There is also a well-stocked professional golf shop offering a vast array of products from international golfing brands. And not forgetting the resorts own Golf Academy and Par 3 course which is perfect for those wanting to improve their skills and talents or even just try the sport for the first time.
As this is a busy and popular course with a fair number of members the tee times for visitors here are somewhat restricted and have the best availability on weekdays however if players book far enough in advance disappointment should be avoided and a suitable time found. Green fee rates here are also very reasonable considering the calibre and prestige of both the course and its designer and a number of discounts and special offers are available to play here at certain times of the week.
Thanks to its relatively central location within the county access to the resort is good and the capital Dublin and its international airport are only 60 minutes away by car. From Dublin, international transport links are also strong. The most obvious accommodation options for visitors to this course is the onsite hotel which has a number of luxury 5 star options available which are sure to suit even the highest of tastes.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for Heritage Golf & Spa Resort. is the average of 1 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukI was pleasantly surprised with the Heritage. Clearly it has been built with a large budget and it has many good holes and only a handful of average ones. The land slopes nicely, pronounced by extensive bunkering which tend to feel somewhat peripheral given that the fairways are as wide as airport runways. A good score is therefore a real possibility if you can keep out of the bunkers and the water hazards. Overall the Heritage is a pretty decent golfing experience that is complimented by a quality onsite hotel with all the usual luxuries.
