Found in the far north of Ireland within County Donegal is the golf course at the Greencastle Golf Club. The course lies very close to the coastline overlooking the impressive Atlantic Ocean and it is easy to see nearby Northern Ireland from here as it lies only a short distance away across the water. The stunning and tranquil Lough Foyle also lies nearby and Greencastle itself which the club is named after can be found to the south of the site and is a well-known commercial fishing port.

The club here was founded back in 1892 and the course originally comprised of just the nine hole layout however in its centenary year of 1992 the club extended the course to the full 18 holes. Since then both loops have matured further and blended perfectly together to create this challenging yet interesting course.  The redesign here was undertaken by the late great Irish favourite Eddie Hackett and it is a testament to his skills.

The course is of a links style due to its location on the Inishowen Peninsula overlooking the Lough meaning that the natural elements provide a lot of the challenge here. Measuring 5293 metres, this is a tough par 69 course with a plethora of features to both test and entertain players of varying strengths. Natural streams come into play on a number of the holes here and the views offered from the course further enhance the quality of play that can be had here.

Facilities at the club are fair and players will find all of the amenities that they should desire so as to enjoy a round or two here. There is a variety of equipment available to hire here which will help to facilitate play and there is a beautiful and welcoming restaurant which both players and visitors can enjoy throughout the course of the day.

Green fee rates are very reasonable for this course and offer good value for money for all that play here. Tee time availability is also fair and there should be a time to suit all if booked far enough in advance. It should be noted that both tee times and green fee rates are subject to change with the season and prior booking is highly recommended so as to avoid disappointment.

As the club is on one of the far northern tips of Ireland getting here can take some time however road links are fair. Access from Northern Ireland is very straightforward as there is a regular ferry service across the small stretch of water separating the two countries in this location. With regards to accommodation the club has a number of long standing links with local providers which should appeal to most needs, tastes and budgets.
