The Glenlo Abbey hotel complex and its associated golf course can be found within County Galway to the west of Ireland. Lying just outside of the bustling city of Galway itself the local areas has plenty to offer to both golfing and non-golfing visitors alike and there is sure to be something for everyone. The stunning Galway Bay is a must visit for all as the views that can be had from there are excellent.
Designed by the well-known Jeff Howes who has designed a number of courses across Ireland as well as on the continent in Switzerland the course here was opened for play back in 1996. Since it opened, the course here has matured well and is a pleasure to play on.
The course here is of a parkland style and consists of 9 holes. It measures some 2822 metres from the white tees and has a par of 36 when played as nine holes however it is popular to double up here. Lying beside a majestic lake, it is apparent that water comes into play on a number of the holes here. There are a number of double greens throughout this course and the presence of plenty of mature trees further adds to the challenge.
As the golf course is part of the larger hotel complex the facilities here are excellent and there are a number of dining and drinking options for players to enjoy after their rounds. The club is home to a resident PGA professional offering a number of tuition and coaching options for players and there are a number of pieces of equipment available to hire from here too. With regards to practice facilities there is a sizeable driving range as well as teaching area upon which players can hone their skills.
Green fee rates are very reasonable here considering the quality of the course and facilities and offer good value for money. With regards to tee times, priority goes to members and hotel residents however there is sure to be a time to suit all visitors as well.
Access to the resort is good as the transport hub of Galway is very close and links from the rest of Ireland are good. With regards to accommodation, the obvious option is the affiliated hotel which has a number of room options which should suit all tastes and budgets.

It is the best value in town, and the course is challenging and fair. Everyday new and improved changes are talking place.
