Glen of the Downs Golf Club and its associated golf course are ideally situated within Ireland to welcome visitors from throughout the world. Found in County Wicklow just outside of the village of Delgany the course is set in some of the most beautiful surroundings that Ireland has to offer. That said, the capital Dublin as well as its international airport are both around 30 minutes away by car making this a popular choice with many.
The course was first opened in 1998 and was designed by the seasoned designer Peter McEvoy whose skilled hands have helped to design some of the finest courses in Ireland in recent years including those at Rathsallagh and Fota Island. Set on a large piece of prime Irish land and overlooked by the nearby Sugarloaf Mountains the course here is both challenging and stunning.
Measuring just under 5900 metres this parkland style course has a par of 71. The design of this course has achieved an almost perfect balance between the surrounding nature and the man-made features to create an exciting course. Multi-tiered, USGA standard greens are common here and provide a refreshing yet interesting challenge. Gently rolling fairways and almost 100 bunkers also feature and further add to the excitement here.
Facilities at this club are good and include a bar and restaurant as well as a number of lounge areas in which players can relax after their rounds. There are also locker rooms housed in the clubhouse for use by players and a well-appointed professional golf shop offering a variety of goods to players.
Tee times for visitors to this course are somewhat restricted and tend to fall in the afternoons during the weekdays although a small number of morning sessions are also available. Weekend availability is fair but again is restricted to the afternoon. Green fee rates here are reasonable and the club offers a number of varying discounts to players depending upon the time booked which offer even better value for money.
Thanks to its proximity to Dublin the course is blessed with well-established transport links to the rest of Ireland as well as nearby Northern Ireland and further afield. Nearby accommodation options for visitors are somewhat limited however the Glenview Hotel and Leisure Club is a worthy popular option in the vicinity.

Idyllic countryside location12/12/2013this review is the subjective opinion of a GOLFBOO user and not of GOLFBOO S.LInteresting course in a stunning location. Quite a long course but it is possible to walk if you have the stamina for it. Well-kept greens which were fast and true. The 8th and 10th holes share a humongous green which was a unique feature that I have never seen before.
