Situated near to the West coast of  Ireland the Galway Golf Club golf course can be found in the county of the same name. Near to the city of Galway the golf course can be found near to the popular seaside resort of Salthill which attracts a number of tourists all year round. Attractions in and around the area which can be combined with a round of golf at the course include a number of beautiful beaches, the National Aquarium of Ireland and a host of bars, restaurants and casinos.

The club itself was established in 1895 and has a rich and interesting history. It is believed that the original 9 holes at the club were laid out by a British Officer stationed in the area however these were not on the current site of the course. The course has moved across a number of locations within the surrounding area however the current location was found in the early 1900’s and the original layout was created by the renowned architect  Dr Alister MacKenzie in the twenties. Since then the course has had numerous updates and changes however it remains traditional.

A mature parkland style course measuring 5974 from the championship tees it offers a par of 70. Expect tree and gorse lined holes here that have a distinctly traditional feel although recent modifications keep up with the modern aspect of the game.

Facilities at Galway Golf Club include a bar and restaurant within the clubhouse which offers stunning views over the nearby Galway Bay. There is also a well-appointed professional shop staffed by PGA professionals who can also provide coaching and tuition by prior arrangement.

The course and club here are very member orientated meaning that availability of tee times and green fee rates for visitors remain somewhat undisclosed. However there are a number of membership options and the club is known for providing packages and golfing days for societies and larger groups.

Due to its proximity to the city of Galway the club has fair transport links to some of the rest of the country, particularly the East.  With regards to accommodation there are a wide array of options in and around the golf club and especially in Galway itself which should appeal to all tastes and budgets.

I would agree with John's comments below, this is not a 6-ball course. It's not a bad track but it's not a course you'd go out of your way to play. Nice enough but nothing special.

We played at the 25.5.2012.Der Club was founded in 1895. The first 4 hole will be played at 100 to 200 m distance with direct views of Galway Bay. Then in a beautiful "parkland" layout. Suoer maintained course, interesting Greens and for €30 a week a real "deal". Only drawback was that while we were there guests just before 8 o'clock in the morning, or from 17 o'clock in the evening could play.
