Found in the county of the same name the Galway Bay Golf Resort and its associated golf course are in the Central West area of  Ireland. Overlooking the bay itself the complex is set in a spacious estate which was once prime farming land however in more recent years it has been developed in to the resort we can see today. The nearby town of Oranmore is close to the site and the city of Galway itself is approximately 15km away.

Designed by the legendary  Christy O’Connor Jnr the course was opened in 1993 and has been described by many as a “seaside parkland” course which is very unique in its nature and play. However it is officially classified as a links course which is of a championship standard. The design has divided opinion across the golfing world and is distinctly American in its feel and features.

The course measures just over 6530 metres from the yellow tees and has a par of 72. This ambitious course is not short on features and the natural surroundings combine excellently with the efforts of O’Connor to create a tough but fair course. Natural water features as well as the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the generous use of bunkers add a further dimension to the play here as well as offering breath-taking views.

Due to its resort like nature the club is well equipped to meet the needs and demands of players. There is a beautiful, welcoming bar and restaurant areafor players to enjoy as well as a professional, well-stocked golf shop. Practice facilities include chipping, putting and bunker greens as well as a modern driving range with which players can hone their skills and techniques.

Tee times for visitors to this course are well dispersed throughout the duration of the day and week and vary with the seasons. Green fee rates here are reasonable when you consider the quality of the course and its facilities however the course offers a number of discounts and special reduced rates for players here at select times.

The resort and the nearby city of  Galway have good general transport links to the rest of Ireland making this a good option for visitors from a variety of locations. Furthermore there are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area as well as Galway itself which should appeal to most visitors’ needs, tastes and budgets.

As the name implies, the course is situated directly at the Galway Bay. It offers great views. In parts the course offers "links character" due to the partial dune landscape, otherwise clean fairways with built-in water hazards. Well-kept course, which is good play. Friendly reception of guests. Secretariat, pro shop and bar/restaurant is located in a large building of golf resorts - the Tin containers referred to in previous assessments be used otherwise.
