The Barryscourt golf course at Fota Island is located on a private island near to the city of Cork in the South of Ireland. The course is part of the vast Fota Island Resort which incorporates a hotel, spa and golf academy as well as three high standard golf courses. Its privileged location offers the best of both worlds to playing visitors as the 780 acre estate is peaceful and visually stunning yet is only a short drive away from the international airport in nearby Cork.
Along with the other courses at Fota Island, Barryscourt was opened in 1993 and is a combination of the design efforts of the equally legendary Christy O’Connor Jnr and Peter McEvoy. Its stance as part of a resort should not influence the judgement of prospective players as this course is one of the best examples of a parkland style course in Ireland and boasts a unique array of features to entertain and challenge all types of players.
At just over 6730 metres in length and with a par of 73 this course is of epic proportions and is a genuine challenge for many. It has played host to a number of important tournaments over the years and has a great selection of features to test players. Water and sand come in to play frequently throughout the course and gently undulating greens will test everyone’s putting game.
With regards to facilities at the site there is a clubhouse complete with bar which serves a selection of refreshments. Also there is a large professional golf shop which is well equipped to deal with the needs and wants of all golfers. Practice facilities here are excellent too as the resort is home to a Golf Academy. Professional tuition and coaching is also available here by prior arrangement and is provided by PGA professionals.
Green fee rates for the Barryscourt course are quite steep if you are just looking to play golf however the price obviously reflects the high quality of the course and the facilities within the resort. However the resort offers some fantastic deals for those visitors wishing to combine an overnight stay with their golfing experience and these are great value for money. Tee times are usually booked up through these packages however there is some availability for players only wanting to play for the day however it is rather limited and advance booking is essential.
The obvious accommodation option for this course is the Fota Island Hotel or one of the lodges which are available to hire throughout the estate. Travelling to the resort from international locations is relatively easy thanks to its proximity to Cork International Airport. Road links to the rest of Ireland are also good.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for Fota Island Golf Club. is the average of 10 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukA very good test of Golf for the Amateur Golfer from the standard tees. It rained all morning on the day we played but within minutes of our afternoon tee off the course was in excellent condition. The tees and greens were magnificent. For a course still under 20 years old there was a maturity about it beyond its years. The fairways were also very good. Par 3's could have been a little longer in length from the standard tees but with water in play a good test. Our match went to the wire with a birdie 4 to win at the last. Would love to go back but feel it would spoil a fantastic memory. Would highly recommend.
Average rating obtained byThis rating for Fota Island Golf Club. is the average of 1 ratings obtained from www.ukgolfguide.comPlayed here earlier in the year but having watched it on the weekend for the Irish Open I thought I'd write a review. The course was a really enjoyable place to play. The holes were a nice design, although I lost balls with my wayward drives. All in all I enjoyed the course and look forward to playing it again - just not as well as the guys off the European Tour!

Be sure to play the Deerpark. The newer 9 holes are also beautiful, fall off but compared to the Deerpark slightly, because of the beautiful old trees felht
