Found on its own private island near to the city of Cork in the South of Ireland is the Fota Island Resort which is home to a number of golf courses as well as a spa and hotel. The Belvelly golf course is one of three courses at the site and is located centrally within the Fota Island estate. This beautiful location is serene and stunning yet is still only a short drive away from Cork International Airport and ferry terminal.
The course is a combination of work from two pioneers of golf course design, Christy O’Connor Jnr and Jeff Howes. It was opened in 1993 and has matured well over the years to create a traditional and unique course which is playable by golfers of most skill levels. The two further courses, Deerpark and Barryscourt are also universally appealing to a variety of golfers which makes Fota Island a popular choice for visitors.
Measuring just over 6511 metres from the championship tees this course consists of 18 holes that have a par of 72. Its parkland style allows for a great array of features throughout the course. Expect to play some exciting and testing golf as many holes will require accurate iron work to really make the most of them. Some greens here are tight but this shouldn’t detract from traditional and elegant layout of the course which can still be enjoyed by golfers of different strengths. There is enough within the course to both challenge the more experienced players whilst also coaxing some game-strengthening play from less experienced visitors.
Fota Island Golf Club and the resort as a whole offer some fantastic facilities to players. The clubhouse is a beautiful conversion of some old farm buildings which were once an essential part of the estate. Inside there is a bar offering a good selection of drinks and snacks for players to enjoy after their rounds. Furthermore there is a large, purpose built pro shop next to the clubhouse which stocks a huge array of apparel and equipment from a number of prestigious global brands. At the site there is also a large Golf Academy which has a number of practice facilities that can be used by players as well as PGA professionals which can provide coaching and tuition by prior arrangement.
Due to its association with the rest of the resort the tee times for visitors just wanting to play golf at the Belvelly course can be somewhat limited as the hotel tends to offer packages which combine play with overnight stays. That said, there is some availability for visitors that just want to play for the day and this changes throughout the year. With regards to green fee rates for the Belvelly course they offer good value for money when you consider the high quality of both the course and its facilities as well as the beautiful location of the resort. As mentioned above some discounts and offers are available for those visitors who wish to combine their golfing experience with a stay at the Fota Island hotel.
Getting to the resort and the courses is relatively easy as the large city of Cork is only a short drive away by car and from there the transport links to the rest of Ireland as well further afield are well established. In terms of accommodation the Fota Island resort boasts both a luxury hotel as well as a number of lodges which can be hired by larger parties of visitors so there is something for everyone.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for Fota Island Golf Club. is the average of 10 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukA very good test of Golf for the Amateur Golfer from the standard tees. It rained all morning on the day we played but within minutes of our afternoon tee off the course was in excellent condition. The tees and greens were magnificent. For a course still under 20 years old there was a maturity about it beyond its years. The fairways were also very good. Par 3's could have been a little longer in length from the standard tees but with water in play a good test. Our match went to the wire with a birdie 4 to win at the last. Would love to go back but feel it would spoil a fantastic memory. Would highly recommend.

The holes were a nice design, although I lost balls with my wayward drives. All in all I enjoyed the course and look forward to playing it again - just not as well as the guys off the European Tour!

Unbedingt den Deerpark spielen. Die neueren 9 Löcher sind zwar auch schön, fallen aber gegenüber dem Deerpark etwas ab, da der schöne alte Baumbestand felht
