Just to the north of the bustling city centre of Belfast, Northern Ireland is the golf course at the Fortwilliam Golf Club. Lying in County Antrim the centre of the capital is only a short distance away and there is plenty for visitors of all ages to both see and do in this vibrant cultural melting pot of a city. For example the city is home to a great selection of museums and galleries as well as exclusive eateries and cosmopolitan bars to name but a few of its selling points, it is definitely worth a visit at least once in a lifetime!

It was in 1891 that the club was originally founded however, as the city of Belfast grew the land upon which it played became ever smaller therefore in 1897 a search started for a new suitable location. It was not until 1903 however that the perfect location was found and the club and course have remained there ever since. The course has seen many extensions, changes and redevelopments over the years however all have blended well and this mature course is a pleasure to play on.

Made up of 18 holes, the course is of a parkland style and measures just over 5500 metres from the white tees with a par of 70. Every hole here presents an individual and interesting challenge which will require players to make good use of all of the clubs in their bag. Greens and fairways are meticulously maintained here and there is a strong presence of established trees which border the course. This is a challenging and traditional course yet one that is sure to be enjoyed by golfers of most skill levels.

Facilities at the club are very good and the majority can be found within the clubhouse which offers excellent views over the course as well as further afield and on clear days there are claims you can even see the coast of Scotland! There is a bar and restaurant area serving a wide variety of food and drink for all to enjoy. There are also well-appointed locker facilities, lounge areas, function rooms and a pro shop offering a selection of items for either purchase or hire.

Green fee rates for this course are very reasonable and offer good value for money although they do change somewhat depending upon the circumstance and/or time of the season. Tee time availability is reasonable and there is likely to be a time to suit all if arranged in advance.

As the club is so close to Belfast, links to much of the rest of the country by road as well as the rest of the United Kingdom and Ireland by rail, air and sea are good. There is a huge array of accommodation options in Belfast to suit all visitors from small B&B’s to chic boutique hotels.

Great course, tight fairways with lightening greens! A couple of serious hills to climb, but the views are breathtaking!
