Within County Cork in the south of Ireland is the golf course at the luxurious Fernhill Golf and Country Club. Found in the outskirts of the commuter town of Carrigaline the complex lies some 14 km south of the city of Cork itself. Thanks to its proximity with the city the local area is well-equipped to host visitors and there are a number of things to see and do here. However it is not just the city that is full of attraction but the nearby harbours and bays are also beautiful and a must see for visitors which further add to the appeal of this golfing destination.

The club here was formed in 1993 and forms part of the extensive and luxurious country club which is home to a modest hotel as well as fitness centre. Also dotted throughout the estate are a number of golf cottages which are perfect for corporate guests or groups of friends wanting to enjoy a golfing getaway. The complex also has extensive conference facilities which further add to its corporate appeal.

Measuring 5242 metres from the white tees this course has a par of 69. It is of a mature parkland style and features are extensive. Expect plenty of tree lined fairways as well as a number of cleverly placed bunkers and undulating greens. This is a fair course which has universal appeal and can be enjoyed by golfers of most skill levels, that said however it does have its fair share of challenge and players will need to keep their wits about them so as to do well here.

As it is a country club the facilities here are good and include a welcoming bar and restaurant area for both players and guests to enjoy. There are extensive facilities available for functions which can be tailor made to suit individual needs. With regards to golf specific facilities there is a golf academy featuring 10 floodlit driving bays as well as a putting and chipping greens upon which players can hone their skills. The club is also home to a resident professional who is on hand to offer coaching, guidance and tuition.

Tee time availability for visitors to this course is fair and there is sure to be a time to suit all during the weekdays. Weekend availability is somewhat restricted however is still fair. It should be noted that tee time availability changes drastically throughout the seasons. Green fee rates here are very reasonable and reflect good value for money. A number of discounts and offers are also available for those who wish to stay and play or form part of a large party and these offer even greater value for money.

Thanks to the proximity to the city of Cork, the road links to the club are good and visitors should have no problem in getting here from much of the rest of Ireland as well as the nearby United Kingdom. The obvious accommodation option is the attached hotel or golf cottages which are very popular and finished to a high standard however there are a number of other options in and around the local area if these do not suit.
