Found in the heart of Ireland within County Offaly is the golf course at the Esker Hills Golf Club. Its location in the Irish midlands is very central and access to it is good. The nearby town of Tullamore can be found to the southeast of the site and has a number of places of interest which visitors can enjoy including the historical Charleville Castle and the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre which is a must visit for whiskey fans as this is the home of the famous Tullamore Dew whiskey which remains the town’s greatest export although it is no longer distilled there.

Opened for play in 1996, the course here was designed by the well-known designer Christy O’Connor Jnr. O’Connor Jnr comes from a great golfing dynasty both in terms of play and design and his skilled hands have worked on many courses across Ireland including those at the Fota Island Resort as well as others on the continent including some in Portugal

This inland course is of a championship standard and measures 5650 metres from the white tees with a par of 71. Although on paper this is a parkland style course many comment on its distinct links like feel. Every hole here is unique and the sand based greens are excellently maintained making for an enjoyable and universally appealing course with just the right amount of a challenge.

Facilities at this club are good and the majority are housed in the classic clubhouse which has a very traditional feel. Here you will find a bar and restaurant area for players to enjoy after their rounds. Locker rooms will also be found there as well as hire facilities for buggies. With regards to practice facilities there is a good size putting green for players to develop their skills and get a feel of the greens prior to starting play.

Green fee rates for this course are very reasonable for visitors and offer good value for money. Tee time availability for visitors is generally good here and all are sure to find a time suitable for all. Weekend availability is more restricted and prior booking is highly recommended so as to avoid disappointment.

Thanks to its central location the club is easily accessed from much of the rest of Ireland. The club has a number of links with local accommodation providers and there is sure to be something in and around the local area to appeal to all tastes and budgets.
