Lying in the very North of  Ireland towards the West is the golf course at Dunfanaghy Golf Club. Found in County Donegal near to the quaint town and former fishing port of Dunfanaghy itself the stunning location of this course truly is breath-taking. Offering views over the beautiful Sheephaven Bay this course is as serene as it is beautiful and is a real pleasure to play on.

Originally laid out in 1905 the designer of the course is the famous  Harry Vardon whose efforts created a true links course that still holds on to its classic feel even after some alterations and changes which have been carried out over the years.

The course measures 5133 metres from the yellow tees and has a par of 68. This is a great example of an Irish links course and the natural features here really are unique and unparalleled;a trait which has helped make links courses so popular in the country. Thanks to good natural drainage and the sand dune location of the course it is open for play all year round.

Facilities at Dunfanaghy are fair and include a clubhouse which is home to well-stocked professional shop which sells a vast array of national and international golfing equipment, merchandise and apparel. Golf lessons and tuition are also available at the club by prior arrangement and are provided by the club’s resident PGA professional.

There is a wide availability of tee times for visitors to play at this course throughout the week and even at the weekends it is good. The club also hosts a number of open competitions and tournaments throughout the year which can be enjoyed by visitors and members alike. Green fee rates for this course are reasonable and  a number of discounts and offers are available to play here for those in societies and larger groups.

The course and Dunfanaghy itself are both rather secluded however road links to the rest of the North West of Ireland are reasonable and links to nearby  Northern Ireland are also good. The club is a great wealth of information for visitors with regards of where to stay and what to do whilst in the area and there are a number of different accommodation options available which should appeal to all. Local attractions include a history museum and stables which offer horse and pony rides to name but a few.
