Found in County Cork to the South of Ireland is the golf course at Douglas Golf Club. It is around 7 kilometres from the city centre itself which makes this an ideal location for those wanting to enjoy a golfing getaway without being too far away from a large city. The course here is in good company as the local area is full of many great courses such as those at the Raffeen Creek and Frankfield Golf Clubs.

The club here was founded in 1909 and the original 18 holes were laid out by the celebrated British Open winner Harry Vardon with the help of John McNamara, the clubs then professional. The course opened for play in 1910 and over the years has seen a number of upgrades and improvements yet has matured in to an excellent course.

Measuring 5771 metres from the white tees the course has a par of 72. This is a parkland style course with many of the expected traditional features such as mature trees and woodland and gently undulating terrain. This is an enjoyable course with just the right amount of challenge so that it can be enjoyed by players of varying skill sets and strengths.

The facilities here are good and include a bar and restaurant for players to enjoy after their rounds and is a perfect location to unwind with a bite to eat or a drink. There is also a resident PGA professional at this club who will be more than happy to assist you in any purchases you may need to make from the well-stocked pro shop which is on site.

Tee times for visitors here are fair and there is likely to be a time to suit all when booked through the club. Green fees are also reasonable and reflect the nature and standard of the course and facilities which are available here.

Thanks to its proximity to Cork getting to the club is relatively straightforward and onward links to the rest of Ireland as well as the nearby United Kingdom and further afield are plentiful from the city. Accommodation options are also plentiful in and around the local area and there should be something to appeal to the tastes, needs and budgets of most visitors.

The course is well set up, although there are some disappointing enough holes that could be improved in the design such as the 3rd, 13th. Some of the greens on the course are brilliant such as the 9th
