The golf course at Doonbeg Golf Club is a classic example of an Irish links course. Situated on the West coast of Ireland, Doonbeg can be found in County Clare. It is around a 45 minute transfer to and from the nearest airport which is Shannon International Airport. In relation to the capital of the country, Doonbeg and its golf course are around 3 hours away by car. That aside it still remains in a privileged and generally easy to access location.
Opened in 2002 and designed by Greg Norman the course quickly received critical acclaim from a host of sources. These include the respected title of “European Golf Resort of the Year” which it received in 2010 from the equally respected Global Golf Tourism Association. In its relatively short life it has also been cited as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world by publication, Golf Magazine.
The course itself features 18 holes, measures 6296 metres in length and has a par of 72. The philosophy of the designer was to cause minimal disturbance to the natural surroundings and as a result the course has a natural route through the sand dunes and is as unique as it is beautiful. Expect an array of different holes that will require careful judgement and consideration by all players. The signature 14th hole at the course has been cited by many as, quite simply, one of the best short holes of the golfing world.
Facilities at the course are extensive and include caddie services, optional golf tuition and professional golf shop equipped with a large selection of merchandise and memorabilia to remember your time at Doonbeg. The course itself is part of the Doonbeg Lodge resort and therefore dining and drinking facilities are plentiful throughout the resort to be enjoyed by golfers. Meetings and functions can also be catered for at The Lodge for players wanting to combine business with pleasure.
Tee times for the golf course at Doonbeg are numerous and offer a good general availability which should suit the requirements of most visiting players. The availability of times also changes somewhat throughout the seasons. With regards to green fee rates at the course they do tend to be quite pricey; however due to the calibre and quality of the course and its facilities the rates offer exceptional value for money. There are numerous offers and deals available for visiting players at Doonbeg with a popular package being the option to combine a round of golf with a light lunch at the Lodge at a special reduced rate.
Getting to Doonbeg by road is relatively straightforward even if the course and lodge are somewhat secluded. In terms of accommodation the obvious choice for players is to stay at the associated Doonbeg Lodge which offers a wide selection of luxury accommodation to players and has facilities including a spa.

Average rating obtained byThis rating for Doonbeg Golf Club. is the average of 25 ratings obtained from www.top100golfcourses.co.ukQuite simply a brilliant golf course with stunning scenery. Stayed onsite for 4 nights in the world class lodges (better than Bandon Dunes and Pebble Beach). First hole is one of the best and most beautiful holes I have played. All the par 3s a delight. Played 50+ of top 100 in Britain and this should be a top 20 course. Comparable to the classic older Irish links courses.
Average rating obtained byThis rating for Doonbeg Golf Club. is the average of 2 ratings obtained from www.1golf.euI've played almost all top courses in Ireland! The Doonbeg links Trump International is my no. 1, ahead of old Portmarnock, Ballybunion, Tralee and the Iceland! What a links! Atlantic, Greens, pot bunkers and dunes enter into a mixture that is unique! In my private ranking, only Royal County down and Valderrama before this place is! WORLD CLASS!
Average rating obtained byThis rating for Doonbeg Golf Club. is the average of 2 ratings obtained from www.ukgolfguide.comMy friends and I bought a fourball at Doonbeg in a Rotary Club auction last year and recently incoprorated that game into a golf tour of Ireland. We had heard good things abour Greg Norman's design but until you experience it for yourself there is no way to describe just how good it is. Every hole is a real gem but when you arrive on the 14th tee you know you are bout to play something very special. This hole is proof that you don't need 250 yard par 3s to combat modern technology...this hole measures 111 yards and all four of us were shaking in our boots on the tee! If the 14th wasn't enough then the very next hole is equally as good. Not only is the layout outstanding but so was the condition of the course. Also in the area is Lahinch which was almost as good and if anyone is embarking on a golf tour of Ireland you would be mad to miss either of these world class golf courses. PS - I never expected to find a bunker in the middle of a green!
