Located near to the east coast of Ireland is the Donabate Golf Club and its associated golf course. Lying north of the capital Dublin within Co. Dublin the course and club lie just 10 minutes away from the nearby international airport making this a perfect destination to welcome visitors from both near and far. Thanks to its proximity with the capital there is plenty for visitors to see and do in and around the local area aside from golf meaning that this should appeal to both golfers and non-golfers alike.

The club here has an extensive history and was originally founded in the 1920’s the courses here were built in 1925 and all are of a distinct style and play. Although the designer of the course remains uncredited it is apparent to all that play here that this is an enjoyable and interesting course.

Comprising of three loops of nine, this is a 27 hole complex which is all of a parkland style. Thanks to some great design the course can be played all year round and the undulating terrain combined with water hazards and well placed mature trees make for an interesting and exciting course no matter which loops you choose to play on. Any combination of loops can be played by visitors and the simple yet effective naming system of blue, yellow and red mean no fuss and no hassle for players.

With regards to facilities, Donabate is well-equipped to meet the needs of visitors. Practice facilities include a natural grass practice range as well as a chipping and putting green upon which players can hone and refine their skills. There is also a modern clubhouse which opened here in 2002 and boasts a bar and restaurant area for players to enjoy after their rounds as well as well-appointed changing facilities.

Tee time availability for visitors here is fair and there should be a time to suit all if booked far enough in advance. Obviously weekend availability is more restricted however it is still reasonable. Green fee rates are reasonable and offer good value for money when you consider the quality and variety of the course and facilities here.

Due to its proximity with the capital, transport links to this course from much of the rest of Ireland as well as nearby Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom are good. Accommodation options are also plentiful and there should be something to suit most tastes and budgets in and around the local area particularly in the city centre.

A very tight course with a lot of mature trees. If you do not hit the fairway you will struggle. The greens were fast but true.
