In the west of Ireland is where you will find the Curra West Golf Club and its golf course. Found within the large county of Galway the bustling city of Galway itself lies just over 55 kilometres to the west of the site. The local area is characterised by expanses of beautiful Irish countryside and a number of naturally occurring bogs and loughs. Portumna Golf Club and its golf course can also be found near to the site and a visit there can be combined with a visit to Curra West to make this a perfect golfing break.

Little is known about the history of the club and the course, or at least that which is known remains unpublished. However it is known that the course as we know was opened for play in 1996 and it has matured well ever since.

Made up of 18 holes the course is an excellent example of the parkland style. Measuring 4586 metres from the green tees for gentlemen it is not the longest of courses in the world but it still has a great array of features. With a par of 67, players should expect elevated greens, fairways lined with mature trees and some fantastic views. The course here is a real mixed bag of features that will provide both entertainment and challenge to all from beginners to low handicappers.

Facilities at Curra West are modest yet sufficient and both a bar and restaurant can be found in the clubhouse which all are able to enjoy. The clubhouse also has a number of lounge areas which players can use to relax in after their rounds and the views that can be had from the clubhouse are fantastic.

This is generally a member’s only club although visitors are warmly welcomed if they are guests of members. There are also a number of open competitions held throughout the year which are open to all which addresses the lack of tee times available for visitors. Green fee rates are very reasonable and show good value for money.

Road links to the club from much of central and western Ireland are good and visitors would have no problem in getting here. There are a number of accommodation options in and around the local area which should also appeal to all tastes and budgets.
