Found in the heart of Ireland is the golf course at the County Longford Golf Club. Within one of the lesser known counties of the country the surrounding area is defined by countryside and loughs and is very pleasing to the eye. The course and club can be found just to the southeast of the town of Longford itself and the club is ideally positioned to welcome visitors from the surrounding counties such as Leitrim, Roscommon and Westmeath.

As one of the oldest clubs in the country the club was founded in 1894 and has a rich and diverse history which is apparent to all those who visit here, particularly in the clubhouse. Since its inauguration the club has been popular with members and visitors alike, a fact which remains the same today. The course has seen a number of designers over the years however the most notable is the late, great Eddie Hackett who was a true stalwart of golf and design throughout the 20th century.

Of a classic parkland style the course here comprises of 18 holes that measure 5766 metres from the white tees and has a par of 72. Features of the course are synonymous of the famous Hackett style and the use of nature is apparent. Expect a good scattering of mature trees and woodland as well as gently changing terrain and well-manicured greens and fairways to create an enjoyable yet, at times, challenging test of golf.

Facilities at the club are good and there is onsite catering offering a wide selection of refreshments for all and what is sure to be a warm Irish welcome. There is also a professional golf shop here offering a good array of equipment at competitive prices and the club is also home to a resident PGA professional who will be on hand to offer help and advice on purchases as well as coaching and tuition.

Green fee rates to play here are very good value for money and are a good option for many who may find other courses out of their price range. Tee time availability for visitors is good, although weekend availability is more restricted as this is a peak time for members. The club has a number of competitive membership options for players and there are usually a number of discounts to be had to play here.

Thanks to its somewhat central location getting to the club from much of the rest of Ireland is easy and Northern Ireland is also easy to access. Accommodation options in and around the local area are reasonable and there should be something to suit all.
